Local Spotlight: Poppy's Pastry Company

Hello Y'all

If you have been following along since the beginning, you may recall in 2019 I had a series called Local Spotlight, where I highlighted Hartsville and Pee Dee area small businesses and artisans. I decided 2024 was the perfect time to bring the series back! To celebrate growing businesses and our big-hearted small town.

Each month, I will be highlighting a local business and, I am so excited to announce the first local spotlight is Grace Urbaniak and her business Poppy's Pastry Company! My family are huge fans of Grace and all her decadent baked goods. Her toasties (homemade pop-tart) and cinnamon rolls are my absolute favorite! You can tell every roll, pie, and cake is made with joy and love. Continue reading to learn more about Grace, how she started her business, and how the Lord paved this path for her.

What do you sell or services do you provide?

We specialize in fresh breads and pastries while also offering custom cakes, wedding cakes, and other yummy desserts/treats.

How long have you been in business?

9 months

What was the push or moment that made you take the leap of faith and start your own business?

I graduated in May of 2020 with my business degree and shortly after, stepped into the banking industry. While I loved my time there I always felt the Lord pulling at my heart and telling me I was meant for more. I had always loved cooking but had never dabbled in the baking world other than boxed items. Around February of 2022, I took a step and began baking my own bread and pastries and fell in love with creating delicious items from scratch. With the encouragement of my family, friends, and the Lord I decided this was how he wanted me to spread his love and kindness into the world and I haven't looked back since.

What is the biggest lesson you have learned since opening?

Keep going. There will always be times when you feel defeated, make mistakes, and lack motivation. Accepting that these are the things that make you grow and prosper is what changes everything. You just have to keep going.

What is the thing that makes you excited about the work you do?

When I get to see people's smiling faces at something the Lord blessed me with the gift to do.

Do you have any current specials, launches, or offers you would like to share?

I just launched my website a few days ago! It makes for a great space for customers to now easily order at their convenience.

Where can we find you?
