This month I am so excited to introduce Hayden the owner and esthetician behind Down South Sugar Co. LLC! I had the pleasure of experiencing my first facial with Hayden, last week, and oh man, that was the best, most relaxing facial ever. You walk into the beauty bar space, welcomed by cozy seating and a warm cup of coffee. Immediately relaxed. While waiting, you can shop of all the goodies for sale form lip balm to bath bombs! Seriously one of the cutest spots in downtown Hartsville. I love seeing Hayden's passion for her business and how she is killing it after being open for less than six months. Tell us a little bit about yourself! How did you decide to become an esthetician?
I was actually planning to go to school for Dermatology, but struggled with college classes that weren’t Chemistry. When someone asked me why I didn’t work at a Sephora because of my love and skill for makeup. So it sparked the idea of going to school for esthetics. It worked out great because I still got a great basic education that mimicked what I would touch on when studying Dermatology.
What is Down South Sugar CO. LLC and what inspired you to start your own business?
Down South Sugar is a full service beauty bar, offering services for hair, skin and nails. I was inspired to start my own business, primarily because I am strong-willed and didn’t want to have to work for anyone but myself. I also found that there was a high demand for opening something like this in the town of Hartsville.
The salon and shop are so cute! How would you describe your personal style in three words?
Chic, home-y, and elegant
Where do you find inspiration? And what has inspired you recently?
Man, this is a tough one. Well I thrive off of the ideals of others. I love tweaking what people need or want to come up with what to offer as a solution. I love when people ask me questions that require me to plan, research and develop a solution to what can solve their problem, especially skin related!
What is your favorite part about owning your own business?
Being able to just do what I want! It is amazing to not have to report to someone when I want to make a call or do anything big!
And the favorite part about being an esthetician?
Being able to make all my clients feel 100% comfortable in their own skin, whether it be from makeup, a facial to treat a skin condition, a simple but fierce eyebrow wax, or a clean sugared brazilian!
What do you enjoy to do in your free time?
I enjoy spending time with my family, friends, casual drinking at my favorite bar Vintage, and traveling. I also enjoy running my thriller genre book club!
Do you have a favorite place to shop locally?
I love supporting Vintage and Crema for my drinking needs, Griggs Circle Bakery and the new Block and Vino for my go-to luncheons, and for my shopping needs I always choose Mogs, Raised Down South, Wooden Pineapple, Coast, and The Nook!
